Note that IrfanView > menu > Options > Properties/Settings > Start/Exit Options provided a choice of whether starting another IrfanView session would close this existing one.Īt least in this instance, IrfanView captured at most 140 screenshots per minute, for a rate of about 2.3 per second. When I wanted to stop saving screenshots, I simply closed IrfanView. Then, when I was ready to start saving screenshots, I clicked Start. In IrfanView, as indicated in another post, I went into menu > Options > Capture/Screenshot > Desktop area – current monitor (mouse) > Automatic – timer delay = 0.2 seconds > Save captured image as file: JPEG > Options > quality = 95. To capture, I used IrfanView 圆4, opened on the monitor that I intended to capture. It appeared that it might have been the better choice for this job. Note: after this struggle, based on a TechRadar article (Ellis, 2018), I tried Shotcut for a comparable project. Note also that, to minimize filesize, I wanted screenshots, not continuous video (captured via e.g., OBS Studio). Two innovations here: I was capturing only one monitor in a multiple monitor system, and the one I was capturing had 4K (i.e., 3840 x 2160) resolution. A previous post describes how I combined screenshots into a video, to boil down 11 hours of computing activity into a one-hour video.
